We started this show with Hiro’s latest recommendation for a twitter client, TweetDeck, both for desktop and the iPhone. We talked about the craziness of all the different clients we’ve been using and compatibility with laconica, which we are trying out for a second time.
Hiro mentioned that Eric Schmidt had resigned from the Apple Board of Directors and how it might be related to Chrome OS due out next year, in time for hardware like the 3rd generation of netbooks or even the CrunchPad. TechCrunch’s ambitious but still slightly vapourware touch screen web tablet. Which let us seque into the announcement of Sony’s sub-$200 (US) ebook readers. There were actually 2 models announced, one for $199 and one for $299. No wireless though but that maybe be a good thing to help prevent what happened to Kindle users recently. (Yes, we talked about the scandal of Amazon deleting bought books from their customers’ Kindles).
Those books were paid for, but our next topic was about a free book. Not just a free book but a book called “Free” and written by Chris Anderson, author of The Long Tail. You can listen to or download the audiobook version from Wired. There are also some limited time offers of the ebook version to be downloaded for free but they change from time to time and from country to country. Hiro loves the marketing and buzz that Chris Anderson has created and I also picked up interesting info, useful ideas and it made me think.
We finished off the show with exciting news about messa.tv itself, the fact that we are now a proper podcast that you can subscribe to with the bonus of being watchable direct from iPhones, iPods and other modern mobile devices.
But the really end the show, we introduced our newest member of the team, Kenichro Kanechika or just Ken. He might be doing some solo messa.tv projects and he welcomes any fan mail.
